Appearance
Distinctively patterned with blotches of black, tan and white. Ears large with rounded tips. Long legs and with a slightly bushy tail.
Behavior
Diurnal. Intimately social. Lives in closely bonded, extended family groups operating over huge home ranges. Hunts cooperatively to run down prey. Shares food by regurgitation.
Reproduction
Only one pair in a pack breeds. Litters usually between 6-14, but average 10 pups, cared for by all pack members.
